Users may experience a failed upgrade after attempting to use "request platform software package expand..." command syntax to perform an upgrade. The initial upgrade or change to subpackages mode may be successful, but later attempts to upgrade with "install" commands or other workflows could fail. One symptom users could see is a failure to commit the upgrade when later using "install add" commands: Router# install add file flash:c8000aes-universalk9.17.12.04a.SPA.bin activate commit install_add_activate_commit: START Wed Jan 1 01:02:03 GMT 2025 install_add: Adding IMG --- Starting initial file syncing --- Copying bootflash:c8000aes-universalk9.17.12.04a.SPA.bin from R0 to R0 Info: Finished copying to the selected Finished initial file syncing --- Starting Add --- Performing Add on all members [1] Finished Add package(s) on R0 Checking status of Add on [R0] Add: Passed on [R0] Finished Add Image added. If the device is booted up in subpackages/install mode on a "*.SPA.conf" file instead of "packages.conf" explicitly, then the router could encounter this issue: Router# show version System image file is "bootflash:c8000aes-universalk9.17.09.04a.SPA.conf"
Previous attempt to use "request platform..." commands for an upgrade. Please note that these commands are not supported for a routine upgrade. Users should utilize the "install add file activate commit" workflow instead.
If a router is currently booted on a "*.SPA.conf" image, users can take the following steps to correct their environment: # # Upgrade the device to your target code in consolidated mode (booting directly from the .bin file). # # Run an "install remove inactive" to clean up the existing subpackage files. # # Run the one-shot CLI ("install add file activate commit") to move the router from bundle to install mode. #
The "request platform software package expand..." command set is not supported for a routine upgrade on this platform.
