For around 40 seconds, the AP had stopped forwarding the RTP packets down to the client. We can see the packets reaching the AP switchport, but we don’t see them on the air for those 40 seconds. On further investigation we found that during these 40 seconds the client was continuously sending all the RTP frames with Power save enabled and also QoS null frames with Power save. During this whole of 40 seconds, the AP is only Acking packets from the client but it is not transmitting anything to the client. Essentially, as per the U-APSD standard, the expectation is for the AP to transmit all the buffered TID 6 packets for this client once it receives a trigger frame from the client with the same TID 6. For all of the 40 seconds we continuously see ?trigger frames? coming from the client but no downstream traffic from the AP. We checked the Beacon frames and we clearly see the AP has frames buffered for that Assoc ID.
