A MacBook or iPad with Wi-Fi 6E adapter (i.e. a model that was released in early 2023) will be unable to connect to the wireless infrastructure. EAP may succeed, and the AP will send M1, and the client will send M2, but the M2 is dropped by the controller. RA traces on a 9800 will show messages similar to the following: [client-keymgmt] [24812]: (ERR): MAC: MAC.of.client Keymgmt: Failed to validate eapol mic. MIC mismatch. [client-keymgmt] [24812]: (ERR): MAC: MAC.of.client Keymgmt: Failed to validate eapol key m2. MIC validation failed
Seen with the following Apple devices: MacBook Pro (14-inch, 2023) or MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2023) Mac mini (2023) iPad Pro 11-inch (4th generation) or iPad Pro 12.9 inch (6th generation) Problem is seen with all access point models. Problem is seen with AireOS controllers, all versions. Problem is seen with 9800 series controllers, 17.3.5b and 17.6.4, but not seen with 17.10.1 Problem is seen when all of the following AKMs are configured on the SSID: 802.1X-SHA1, CCKM, FT Adaptive Problem may also be seen with the following AKMs configured: 802.1X-SHA1, 802.1X-SHA256, FT Adaptive
Disable FT Adaptive (or enable standard FT.) Alternatively, if experiencing the problem with CCKM and FT Adaptive enabled, disable CCKM.
This is fixed in macOS as of 13.4 beta 2 build 22F5037d, and in Apple iOS as of 16.5 beta 2.
