After upgrade to fix related defect CSCvy10601, some Catalyst 9200L switches continue to report fan failure messages, but reported faulty fan can be observed still operational / spinning. The messages displayed constantly %PLATFORM_THERMAL-6-FRU_FAN_RECOVERY: Switch 1: System fan # recovered to normal status %PLATFORM_THERMAL-1-FRU_FAN_FAILURE: Switch 1: System fan # failed show environment fan Switch FAN Speed State --------------------------------------------------- 1 1 5160 OK 1 2 0 NOT PRESENT or FAULTY * Physically the FAN # works although it displayed the error messages * The temperature of the device is in normal parameters
* Must be running a fixed version for CSCvy10601 * FAN # reports a failure * FAN # shows a message that it recovered * Reload doesn't help, message comes back after a while
- Reload (Fix the issue temporarily) If reload does not clear condition then power cycle. The workaround is temporary.
- The FANs show a failure message and that the FAN recovers by itself, FAN # works although this message comes out continuously - CSCvy10601 contained adjustments to fan monitoring parameters. Some devices continue to report fan failure despite fan functioning normally. Contact Cisco TAC if you are running a fixed version for CSCvy10601 and you suspect this issue. - The defect CSCwc77585 addresses the issue partially. Complete resolution of the issue is provided by the fix of the defect - CSCwd56540. Fix is available in the CCO version of 17.3.7, 17.6.5, 17.9.3, 17.11.1 and later releases.
