Symptom

A Catalyst 8000 Edge routing platform may experience an unexpected reload due to a CpuCatastrophicError. No core files are generated during the crash, so it is a silent reload.

Conditions

Incorrect behavior of a console port (High Speed UART with DMA activated) has been identified as one of the triggers responsible for CPU Catastrophic Error on C8200/C8200L.

Workaround

The problem with the console port behavior was addressed through a software fix available in below IOS-XE versions onwards: - 17.10.1a - 17.6.5 - 17.9.3 - 17.11.1 and future releases
