Unable to configure Standalone / Independent mode for LACP with Layer 3 etherchannel / port-channel on Catalyst 9000 Series Switches
Configure a port channel Configure "no switchport" Attempt to configure "no port-channel standalone-disable" System returns: Switch(config-if)#no port-channel standalone-disable This feature is only supported on L2 port-channels <<<<
Use layer 2 port channel if standalone is a requirement
The feature is desirable when there is a need to keep line protocol up when one side of the links being bundled is not configured - LACP will identify that there is no neighbor, and by default, suspend the ports (thus bringing line protocol down) The configuration "no port-channel standalone-disable" under the port-channel interface in the command line will override the default behavior and allow the ports to go into independent (otherwise known as standalone) mode. However, the configuration is rejected on layer 3 etherchannels (those with "no switchport" configured).
