A Cisco IOS-XE router may see symptoms of high process driven CPU utilization in TPLUS. show process cpu sorted | ex 0.00 CPU utilization for five seconds: 100%/1%; one minute: 81%; five minutes: 80% PID Runtime(ms) Invoked uSecs 5Sec 1Min 5Min TTY Process 414 2478166 2475795 1000 96.44% 68.22% 66.07% 0 TPLUS While this is happening, multiple socket errors would be observed: show tacacs Tacacs+ Server: Server address: Server port: 49 Socket opens: 738534 Socket closes: 738290 <---- 244 outstanding socket connections Socket aborts: 0 Socket errors: 57945 <--- Incrementing
- The router is configured to use AAA accounting and using TACACS+ - AAA is configured for local fallback - The router has multiple interfaces to reach a single TACACS+ server.
Restricting reachability to a given TACACS server to a single interface and setting the ip tacacs source-interface when appropriate can workaround this situation.
While in this state of elevated CPU, a crash maybe seen. CSCvr62415 is filed to track the situation in which a crash may be observed.
