ISR4431 and ISR4451 may randomly start showing the following error messages: %ENVIRONMENTAL-1-ALERT: Temp: Inlet 1, Location: R0, State: Critical, Reading: 65535 Celsius %ENVIRONMENTAL-6-NOTICE: V: PEM Out, Location: P0, State: Warning, Reading: 65535 mV Or with these values: %ENVIRONMENTAL-1-ALERT: Temp: Inlet 1, Location: R0, State: Critical, Reading: -1 Celsius %ENVIRONMENTAL-6-NOTICE: V: PEM Out, Location: P0, State: Warning, Reading: -1 mV The same issue might manifest itself by the below symptoms on ISR4431 when the power supply fails to be initialized correctly: %ENVIRONMENTAL-6-NOTICE: V: PEM Out, Location: P0, State: Warning, Reading: 0 mV In addition most of the sensors in show environment will report 0.
Normal use.
Disconnect the AC power source and then reconnect it after 10 seconds A workaround for the 0 mV reading on the ISR4431 is to disconnect the AC power source (or remove the power supply from the chassis) and reconnect it after 30 seconds. The power to the router must be cut for 30 seconds. A simple reload or power toggle will not clear the condition.
This error message is a manifestation of a software bug. Issue has been resolved in the environmental controller code revision 1.30, which will be released in FPGA version above 3.8. To determine if an ISR4451 or ISR4431 system is affected by this issue, please issue 'show platform' . If the two lower numbers for the 'CPLD version' are 38 or lower the system may be affected. e.g. 15010638 below: Slot CPLD Version Firmware Version --------- ------------------- --------------------------------------- 0 15010638 15.4(3r)S 1 15010638 15.4(3r)S 2 15010638 15.4(3r)S R0 15010638 15.4(3r)S F0 15010638 15.4(3r)S CPLD image 15.5(2)S3 fixes the problem is at the time of this writing available here: https://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=284389362&softwareid=283425232&release=15.5(2)S3&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest Note: If you are seeing similar behavior to this defect but on an ISR 43xx series chassis, see CSCvc24451.
