It is important to determine the version of software that is installed on the printer as the steps to perform certain tasks may differ depending on the version. Examples of Software Versions Checking the Software Version You can update your printer when Xerox releases a new version of printer software or firmware Before you download and install new software, determine the current software version installed on your printer. To determine the firmware version from the Embedded Web Server: To determine the firmware version at the printer control panel: To review the software version on the Configuration report: Enabling Upgrades Enabling Firmware Verification This feature is enabled by default If it is disabled, you can configure the printer to ensure that all installed firmware files are certified properly for the device To enable firmware verification: Four Methods for Upgrading the Printer Software / Firmware There are four methods for upgrading the printer firmware, which are listed below. Return to Methods In the Embedded Web Server, click System . Click Software Update . For Current Version , make note of the version number. At the printer control panel, press the Home button. Touch Device , then Software Update . For Current Version , make note of the version number Print a Configuraiton report from the device. Check System located within the Software Version section of the Configuration Report. In the Embedded Web Server, log in as administrator For additional information refer to How To Access the Printer's Embedded Web Server (Web Interface) and Login as System Administrator, if Needed. Click System , then Software Update . In the Software Update area, click Enable . Click System , then Security . In the Security area, click Firmware Verification . Select On , then click OK . For network connected devices, Xerox recommends using Method 1 ( Automatic Update with Remote Services ) For devices connected via a USB cable, Xerox recommends using Method 3 ( Manual Update using the Firmware Update Tool ) Method 1: Automatically update with Remote Services. Method 2: Manually update by downloading the .bin file and update in the Embedded Web Server. Method 3: Manually update by downloading the Firmware Update Tool and the firmware .bin file, and perform the update manually. Method 4: Manually search for updates at the printer control panel. Click System , then Software Update . Check that Software updates are enabled If not, click Enable to enable them. Click Check Now . Click Install Now . NOTE: The message "Please Wait…" may be displayed for several minutes. Click Agree to accept the license agreement. NOTE: It may take up to 15 minutes for the firmware upgrade to complete When the upgrade is complete, the printer will reboot automatically. Check the software version (see above) to ensure the update was successful. Extract the general release firmware .zip file and save the firmware general release .bin file to a known location. Log in to the Embedded Web Server as administrator See the Related Content for additional information. Click System , then Software Update . Find the section named Update with File Specified , then click Select . Browse to the file location where the previously downloaded *.bin file has been saved to in step 2 and select it. Click Open . Click Install Now . NOTE: The message “Please Wait…” may be displayed for several minutes. Click Agree to accept the license agreement. Double-click the file named FWDLMgr.exe . At the prompt for the License Agreement, click Accept . Select the correct printer model from the Printer Model drop-down menu. Click Browse and navigate to the file location of the firmware .bin file that was previously downloaded. Click Add to assign the firmware to the printer. Click Next . Select the appropriate connection type, Network or USB, and click Next For USB connections, skip to step 11. For Network connections only, type the printer’s IP address or Host Name or select Search From Network , then click Search . Click Next . NOTE: It may take up to 15 minutes for the firmware upgrade to complete When the upgrade is complete, the printer will reboot automatically. Check the software version (see above) to ensure the update was successful. At the printer control panel, press the Home button. Log in as administrator. Touch Device , then Software Update , and then Check Now . Select the software version. Touch Install Now or Schedule . NOTE: If Check Now fails, configure the Proxy Server and Remote Services features as needed by your network, or follow the instructions for updating the software manually in methods 1, 2, or 3 above.
