If you deploy a virtual machine from an OVF file or from the Content Library, instead of ESXi automatically selecting the number of cores per socket, the number is pre-set to 1. For more information, see VMware knowledge base article 89639 .

Workaround

You can manually set the number of cores per socket by using the vSphere Client
