VAMI backup fails using SMB Protocol on vCenter 7.0 U3 with the error: Path not exported by remote file system Running this command on the vCenter SSH session returns a value of "1": cat /proc/sys/crypto/fips_enabled Errors similar to the following are found in /var/log/vmware/applmgmt.log 2021-10-12T11:12:48 AM IST [2953]ERROR:plugins.MountedFSStorageIOLib:Cmd ['/usr/bin/mount', '-t', 'cifs', '//192.168.1.2/VCBackups/', '/storage/remote/backup/cifs/10.168.0.0/zzhhasr/Tghhss', '-o', 'rw,credentials=/tmp/tmpatysss'] failed. rc: 32, stdout: , stderr: mount error(2): No such file or directoryRefer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)
This is a known issue on vCenter 7.0 Update 3.
VAMI backup fails when using SMB as protocol.
This issue is resolved in vCenter Server 7.0 Update 3c.NOTE : If the /var/log/vmware/applmgmt.log shows similar to below"2022-01-28T08:16:32 AM -02 [2474]INFO:plugins.MountedFSStorageIOLib:Failed to mount the cifs share //name/iso/VMware at /storage/remote/backup/cifs/name/JJaV0TO5/G1Y846Rr. Err- rc: 32, out=, err=mount error(13): Permission deniedRefer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)NOTE :The preceding log excerpts are only examples. Date, time and environmental variables may vary depending on your environmentThis means the credential format for backup may be different ie. switch from using a <domainname>\<username> format for the user to using a <username>@<domainname> format, or vice versa.
To workaround this issue temporarily, use other supported backup protocols as outlined in https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/86032
