This article provides information about deprecated devices in ESXi 6.5 and implications for support.
Support for some devices are deprecated in ESXi 6.5. During an upgrade, these device drivers may still be installed on the ESXi 6.5 host, and may continue to function, but the device is no longer officially supported on ESXi 6.5If you are upgrading ESXi using the ISO or VMware Update Manager, you may see a warning indicating that you are attempting to upgrade a server with a deprecated device. If you are upgrading using esxcli, you do not see a warning. If you proceed with the upgrade, in all cases, the deprecated drivers are carried over as part of the ESXi 6.5 upgrade, but the device is not supported in ESXi 6.5.Note: While creating an image that includes driver VIBs supporting deprecated device IDs, you do not see any warnings during the installation or auto deployment. However, during a fresh installation, you see a warning about the deprecated device.
