A VMware vSphere server becomes unavailable in Veeam Backup & Replication after the TLS certificate installed on that server has been replaced or renewed. Jobs and other operations that require a connection to that server fail while the server is unavailable.
This issue occurs because a thumbprint of the TLS certificate installed on the vCenter Server or ESXi host is saved when that server is added to the backup infrastructure. The saved thumbprint is used to verify the server's identity during every subsequent connection so that man-in-the-middle attacks can be detected. When the certificate is replaced, the certificate that the server presents no longer matches the saved thumbprint, and the server is treated as untrusted until the new certificate is acknowledged. As noted in the user guide: When you update a certificate on a server, this server becomes unavailable in the Veeam Backup & Replication console. To make the server available again, acknowledge the new certificate at the Credentials step of the Edit Server wizard.
To make the server available again, the new certificate must be acknowledged at the Credentials step of the Edit Server wizard.
