This article explains how to use the Set-VBOConfigurationParameter cmdlet to apply a custom configuration setting within a Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 deployment.

Custom settings for Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 are stored in XML configuration files: Config.xml on the controller, Proxy.xml on Windows-based backup proxies, and Proxy.ini on Linux-based backup proxies. Applying a custom setting previously required that each of those files be edited by hand in a text editor on every machine. The Set-VBOConfigurationParameter cmdlet was introduced to eliminate the need for manual changes to configuration files. The cmdlet writes the value to the correct location in the file, which removes the risk of a typing or formatting error invalidating the file, and applies settings to remote backup proxies without requiring the user to connect directly to those machines.
