When attempting to add a Dell Unity Storage Appliance that has been upgraded to firmware version 5.5 to Veeam Backup & Replication or operate backups to such storage, the following error occurs: Unable to validate the specified certificate (Error Code: 0x1000100)
An investigation by Veeam R&D has determined that the Dell Unity v5.5 firmware drops support for TLS 1.0/1.1. This creates a conflict because the default uemcli.exe used by Veeam Backup & Replication is version 3.0.1, which requires TLS 1.0/1.1 (this older version is used to ensure maximum backward compatibility).
Starting in Veeam Backup & Replication 12.3.1, a newer version of uemcli.exe is included, but not used by default. To force Veeam Backup & Replication to utilize the uemcli.exe version 5.4.0, which uses TLS 1.2, create or update the following registry value on the Veeam Backup Server: Key Location: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Veeam\Veeam Backup and ReplicationValue Name: VNXeUemcliPathValue Type: String Value (REG_SZ)Value Data: C:\Program Files\Veeam\Backup and Replication\Backup\EMC Unisphere CLI\5.4.0\uemcli.exe The path provided assumes default installation location and that Veeam Backup & Replication 12.3.1 or higher is installed. In some support cases, it has been observed that this issue may persist even after setting the VNXeUemcliPath registry value. In those cases, it was found that customers had installed the Dell Unisphere CLI Tools, and the issue was only resolved after uninstalling the independently installed CLI Tools and removing the certificate files created by the Dell Unisphere CLI Tools installer in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\.emc.
