This article provides additional advice for optimizing Veeam Backup & Replication configuration for large environments using VMware VSAN.
In larger environments that use 10GbE connections, the available throughput typically allows for fewer proxies than the usual recommendation of one proxy per ESXi host. For instance, with a single VSAN datastore, Veeam Backup & Replication supports up to 32 active snapshots, so only 32 VMs can be processed at once. To optimize job performance, make sure the total tasks handled by all proxies matches this limit, and that destination repositories can also handle the same number of tasks. The task scheduler enforces a maximum number of open VM snapshots per vSAN datastore, with a default limit of 32.
