Purpose
This article documents how to completely uninstall the Local vSphere Client Plug-in and reinstall it from scratch.
Solution
To reinstall the plug-in:
In Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager, go to the vCenter Servers section of the Configuration view.
Select the vCenter server you need and click Check version.
If a connection to the vCenter server is successful, and the plug-in is installed in the vSphere Web Client, the Remove link will become active. Click the link to uninstall the plug-in.
After the uninstall process completes, the plug-in status for the vCenter server in Enterprise Manager will change to Not installed. The plug-in will also be removed from the list of plug-ins in the vSphere Web Client.
On the vCenter server, restart the following services:
VMware vSphere 7.0.0.x with the HTML 5 user interface - restart the VMware vSphere Client service named vsphere-ui.
VMware vSphere 6.7.x with the HTML 5 user interface, restart two services:
VMware vSphere Client (vsphere-ui)
VMware vSphere Web Client
vsphere-client for vCenter Server Appliance implementation
or
vspherewebclientsvc for vCenter Server on Microsoft Windows Server
VMware vSphere 6.5.x and earlier with the flex/flash user interface, restart the vCenter Web Client Service
vsphere-client for vCenter Server Appliance implementation
or
vspherewebclientsvc for vCenter Server on Microsoft Windows Server).
Ensure no plug-in components remain on the vCenter server:
In the case of vCenter Server Appliance, open an SSH session to vCenter Server Appliance and remove all entries returned by the find / -name '*veeam*' command.
In the case of vCenter Server on Microsoft Windows Server, log in to the OS and remove all files and folders that contain veeam in their names from the %programdata%\vmware and %programfiles%\vmware folders.
Install the plug-in once again. See the Installing vSphere Web Client Plug-in section in the Veeam Backup Enterprise Manager Guide for details.
