Document VersionRelease DateDetails308/19/2019Updated the Resolution with the permanent fix, Firmware Version 8.8.26 available in HPE Integrity Superdome X Firmware Bundle, dated 14 August 2019.201/24/2019Updated with details about the issue and workaround.112/11/2018Original Document Release. In very rare cases, all internal ports for the HPE Brocade 16Gb/28 SAN Switch attached to an HPE QH2672 16Gb Fibre Channel (FC) Host Bus Adapter (HBA) mezzanine card on an HPE Integrity Superdome X server or HPE ConvergedSystem 900 for SAP HANA (CS900) appliance may be running at 8 Gbps, even though the ports are configured to run at 16 Gbps. This may cause the FC-Storage Area Network (SAN) performance to degrade because the switch is unable to detect the Superdome X system backplane type during the Brocade switch boot. The issue rarely occurs because it depends on a timing issue to occur with all internal ports for the HPE Brocade 16Gb/28 SAN Switch depends on a timing issue to occur with all internal ports for the HPE Brocade 16Gb/28 SAN Switch. To determine if an issue exists with the switch port speed, perform the following steps in Onboard Administrator (OA):Check which interconnect bays are populated with Brocade 16Gb/28c switches by running the OA command:"show interconnect info all"The following is the output example (truncated):FibreProduct Name: Brocade 16Gb/28c Pwr Pk+ SAN SwitchWidth: SingleFibreProduct Name: Brocade 16Gb/28c Pwr Pk+ SAN SwitchWidth: SingleLogin to the switch itself and run the command:"supportshow"The following is the output example (truncated):OA> connect interconnect 5NOTICE: This pass-thru connection to the integrated Input/Output (I/O) console is provided for convenience and does not supply additional access control. Any HPE Integrity Superdome X Server, HPE ConvergedSystem 900 for SAP HANA Scale-out Configurations or HPE ConvergedSystem 900 for SAP HANA Scale-up Configurations system configured with Interconnect Modules on a HPE Brocade 16Gb/28 SAN Switch for HPE BladeSystem c-Class.
The issue is considered intermittent and very rare because it depends on a timing issue to occur with all internal ports for the HPE Brocade 16Gb/28 SAN Switch. If the issue has been determined to be the 8 Gbps port speeds, then upgrading the firmware version to version 8.8.26 will permanently fix the issue. Upgrade to Firmware Version 8.8.26 available in HPE Integrity Superdome X Firmware Bundle, dated 14 August 2019 from the HPE Support Center:https://support.hpe.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=MTX_e877b77c4394422b955b8cc6fcAs a workaround if an upgrade is not possibleandthe port speed issue is occurring, reset and reboot the Brocade 16Gb/28 SAN Switch from the Onboard Administrator by running "restart interconnect <bay number>".If the reset and reboot is applied to a running SAP HANA system, care should be taken to make sure the reset/reboots on the first SAN switch have successfully been completed before attempting the same process on the redundant (second SAN switch). Then check the FC port speed again by performing the steps from the Description used in verifying this issue.RECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES: Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively via e-mail through HPE Subscriber's Choice.
