Certain differences in timestamps may be observed when reviewing system events across various Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) log sources on HPE Compute XD690 systems. In some cases, the same event may appear with different timestamps depending on the log or interface being viewed, such as comparisons between System Event Log (SEL) entries and other BMC logs or UI‑based event views, and no explicit error messages are generated. This condition is typically observed during log review or event correlation activities and can cause confusion during troubleshooting. This is due to a known limitation in the AMI BMC firmware in which time zone handling is not consistently applied across all logging subsystems. Some logs record timestamps using UTC, while others reflect the configured local time zone, resulting in apparent differences for the same event. The condition affects timestamp representation only and does not indicate a problem with system operation, data integrity, or BMC time configuration. The limitation is related to vendor firmware condition and it is not specific to HPE configuration.
Any HPE Compute XD690 systems with BMC firmware.Note:The related is related to a known limitation in the AMI BMC firmware.
At this time, there is no permanent firmware fix available to fully standardize timestamp handling across all Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) log sources, because this behavior is related to a known limitation in AMI BMC firmware. This condition is not associated with hardware components, board revisions, serial numbers, or operating systems, and no hardware actions are required. As a mitigation for environments that require consistent event correlation, HPE recommends using IPMI commands to retrieve UTC‑based timestamps, which provide a consistent and reliable reference across BMC log sources. This customer‑implementable workaround is available today and serves as the primary resolution.HPE is tracking the condition with the firmware vendor and broader improvements will be evaluated if updated firmware becomes available. The condition does not impact system functionality, stability, or data integrity.
