During normal operation of HPE servers, the server Boot Order is being automatically shuffled after upgrading an HPE NS204i-u controller from version 1.2.14.1018 or earlier to version 1.2.14.1022 or later.NOTE: This is a one-time-only event, observed exclusively on the first restart after upgrading from version 1.2.14.1018 or earlier to v1.2.14.1022 or later. Once the system completes its first successful restart on v1.2.14.1022 (or later), all future restarts remain stable with no further changes to the Boot Order.Hers is an example of the Boot Order before performing an HPE NS204i-u controller firmware upgrade:Here is an example of the shuffled Boot Order after performing the HPE NS204i-u controller firmware upgrade:
This advisory applies to any HPE NVMe Solid State Drives (SSDs) for the HPE NS204i-u controllers listed below:HPE NS204i-u Gen11 NVMe Hot Plug Boot Optimized Storage DeviceHPE NS204i-u v2 480GB NVMe Hot Plug Boot Optimized Storage DeviceHPE NS204i-u v2 960GB NVMe Hot Plug Boot Optimized Storage DeviceHPE NS204i-u v2 960GB NVMe SED Hot Plug Boot Optimized Storage Device
As a workaround, manually change the server boot order by following these steps:ClickAdministrationin the navigation tree, and then select theBoot Ordertab. When virtual media is connected, the iLO web interface displays the virtual media type next to the "Virtual Floppy/USB key" and "Virtual CD/DVD-ROM" text at the top of the page.To move a device up or down in the boot order, select the device in the Server Boot Order list, and then clickUporDown. In Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) mode, select an option from the list of available boot devices.NOTE: Floppy drives are supported iLO virtual media devices, but they are not supported as bootable devices.ClickApply. The iLO web interface will confirm that the boot order was updated successfully. This issue will not be encountered after the user manually changes the Server Boot Order with firmware v1.2.14.1022 or later. This issue will be resolved in a future HPE NS204i NVMe Hot Plug Boot Optimized Storage Boot Device firmware release. This document will be updated when more information is available.
