Under specific conditions, firmware updates initiated through the HPE OneView Logical Enclosure (LE) may fail when attempting to update the firmware for SAS drive components from the HPE Synergy Service Pack (SSP) 2026.01.02. The firmware update may appear to stall and ultimately fail to complete.The operation will timeout and exit after approximately two hours. In addition, HPE OneView may flag the server as being not at baseline and HPE OneView will report the status as Activate Failed. No data corruption or hardware damage occurs; however, the firmware update workflow will not complete successfully via LE.The reason for the update failure is because SAS drives do not support UEFI-based component flashing for firmware, which is the method used during certain LE-driven online updates.During LE-driven updates, firmware components classified as Type C are expected to be processed through UEFI. Because this particular SAS drive firmware package is not flashable via UEFI, the update task never transitions into an active state, eventually timing out.This is expected behavior for SAS drive firmware and is not a defect in the drive firmware itself.

As a workaround, update the affected drive firmware using any of the following supported, alternative methods:Re-apply the firmware via Server Profile (SP): In many cases, the drive firmware completes successfully on a subsequent flash.Update firmware via the iLO User Interface.Use HPE Smart Update Manager (SUM): Apply only the specific drive components.These methods use supported SAS update paths (RAID controller/downstream update flow) rather than UEFI.This issue will be fixed in a future HPE Synergy Service Pack (SSP) release. The advisory will be updated when more information becomes available.
