Under certain conditions, HPE ProLiant Gen11 servers equipped with Low Core Count (LCC) Intel Xeon Scalable processors may experience sustained high system fan speeds. This occurs when the CPU enters a deep package idle power state (Package C6) and subsequently fails to respond to temperature telemetry requests from the Integrated Lights-Out (iLO) management processor.When Intel CPU temperature data is unavailable, the system automatically engages a conservative fallback thermal control policy based on the Inlet Ambient temperature sensor (e.g., Sensor 60 on DL320 Gen11; sensor number differs by server type, e.g., Sensor 72 on DL360 Gen11). This fallback policy raises system fan speeds to prevent a potential over‑temperature condition. As a result, customers may observe increased acoustic noise and higher power consumption. This condition has been observed when Intel processor Package C‑State (C6) functionality is enabled, which is a default BIOS setting on supported platforms.Impact:Sustained high fan speeds at idle or low workloadIncreased acoustic noiseHigher power consumption

No permanent fix is currently available. However, HPE is actively investigating the issue. This advisory will be updated once a fix becomes available.WorkaroundAs a temporary mitigation, customers may either select a workload profile that disables processor C‑states or manually disable Intel processor C‑states.Disabling C-States forces the processor to remain in a higher‑power idle state, which helps maintain consistent CPU temperature telemetry to iLO and prevents activation of the fallback thermal control policy.Important Consideration:Disabling processor C‑States can increase idle power consumption and may impact system power efficiency. Customers should evaluate this trade‑off based on their thermal, acoustic, and power requirements.For more information on Intel processor C‑States and power‑management behavior, refer to Intel Xeon Scalable Processor documentation.Based on the requirements, customers may choose from the following workload profiles that disable C‑states:•Low Latency•High Performance Compute (HPC)•Virtualization -Max Performance•Transactional Application ProcessingAlternatively, customers may follow these steps to disable C-State manually:Power on or reboot the server.During POST, press F9 to enter System Utilities.Navigate to System Configuration → BIOS/Platform Configuration(RBSU) → Workload Profile.
