There is a known issue with HPE NS204i-u v2 960GB NVMe SED Hot-Plug Boot Optimized Storage Device when running firmware version 1.2.14.1022. After a controller executes the Redfish command, "Storage.ResetToDefaults," the command will be completed, but the drives behind the controller may change to a "Foreign" status and will not be imported even after a system reboot. This drive issue only occurs when the controller is running firmware version 1.2.14.1022 and will occur intermittently.
Any HPE server with an HPE NS204i-u v2 960GB NVMe SED Hot-Plug Boot Optimized Storage Device running firmware version 1.2.14.1022.
This issue is fixed by updating to controller firmware version 1.2.14.1025 in thisFirmware Packageonline.After updating the controller firmware from version 1.2.14.1022 to version 1.2.14.1025, the affected drives will still be in the "Foreign" status. To change the drives' status, the drives must be reverted to factory default while the controller is running firmware version 1.2.14.1025.Note: Before performing any reset-to-default operations, HPE strongly recommends users to update the firmware version of HPE NS204i-u v2 960GB NVMe SED Hot-Plug Boot Optimized Storage Device to the version 1.2.14.1025 or later.The drive can only be recovered after it is reverted to the original factory status, otherwise, the drive will remain unusable.To recover the drive, perform the steps below:Update the controller firmware version to 1.2.14.1025 from the Firmware Package.Check the label on the drive and write down the PSID code.Enter the Redfish command shown below:TYPE: POSTURL: https://<iLO_IP>/redfish/v1/Systems/1/Storage/<DEVICE_ID>/Drives/<BAY_NUM_1_OR_2>/Actions/Drive.RevertToOriginalFactoryStateBODY: {"PhysicalSecureID":"<PSID_FROM_LABEL>"}After the command is reported as successful, reboot the system.
