HPE ProLiant Compute XD685 servers with liquid-cooling (DLC) on CPUs and GPUs using System ROM A59 v2.56 (released 12/8/2025) may operate with higher than normal GPU fan speed. This impacts all liquid-cooled XD685 servers, including NVIDIA H200, NVIDIA B200, and AMD MI300X GPU SKUs.The expected system behavior is as follows:Fan Behavior: GPU fans (8-12) will operate below 40% speed in most operating conditions, except for high ambient temperatures and certain degraded health conditions.Acoustics: Expected operational acoustic noise of DLC systems is significantly less than air-cooled equivalently sized systems.Power usage: Fan power usage should be less than 5% of total liquid cooled XD685 system power at full workload. However, when this occurs, any or all of the following may be observed:Fan behavior: Liquid cooled XD685 DLC systems may operate with GPU fans (8 - 12) speed set to 50% or higher, even in cold ambient temperature environments or with cold secondary coolant.Acoustics: The higher fan speed will increase the system noise generation beyond expected levels for a liquid cooled system.Power usage: System fan power usage could increase as much as 200W per chassis, or more for short durations.
