Microsoft has announced two Azure Storage changes scheduled for early 2026 that impact the communication and storage mechanisms used by the Zerto Cloud Appliance (ZCA) and Virtual Replication Appliances (VRAs) for Azure:TLS 1.2 enforcement - effective February 3, 2026Azure Blob Storage will stop supporting TLS 1.0 and 1.1TLS 1.2will be the minimum supported versionGPv1 retirement - effective March 3, 2026New GPv1 storage account creation blockedAzure will block creation of new General Purpose v1 (GPv1) storage accounts
These changes will prevent deployment of additional Virtual Replication Appliances (VRAs) and deploymentof newZerto Cloud Appliances (ZCAs) in Azure after the enforcement dates.Existing environments and day-to-day operationsare not expected to be impacted, other than the ability to deploy new VRAs/ZCAs.
To maintain compatibility and avoid deployment failures, customers should upgrade Zerto Cloud Appliances for Azure to one of the following versions (or later)prior to February 3, 2026:Zerto 10.6.4Zerto 10.7.3Zerto 10.8.10The versions above include the required support for TLS 1.2 and GPv2 storage accounts.Zerto 10.0U1 For Hyper-V customers onlyPlease contact Support for further guidance for 10.0U1 ZCA hotfix for Windows customers. This impacts new ZCA and VRAs deployments only, so hotfixes can be applied gradually.Planning Expansion and Cost Considerations:If you are planning Azure DR expansion, now is an appropriate time to expand with additional VRAs and ZCAs while GPv1 storage accounts remain supported throughOctober 2026.Microsoft announced it will begin automatically migrating remaining GPv1 accounts toGPv2starting inOctober 2026, this transition will result in higher Azure charges and increased overall Zerto operational costs.References (Microsoft):GPv1 retirement overview and timeline:GPv1 storage account retirement overview - Azure Storage (Microsoft Learn)Upgrade to a general-purpose v2 storage account (includes note on potential higher billing costs and auto-migration):Upgrade to a general-purpose v2 storage account - Azure Storage (Microsoft Learn)Migrate to TLS 1.2 for Azure Blob Storage:Migrate to Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.2 for Azure Blob Storage - Azure Storage (Azure Documentation)
