When the System BIOS on HPE ProLiant Gen12 servers is updated from version 1.20 to 1.30 (or later), a newly introduced PCIe Resizable BAR Maximum Size setting may not be initialized and may default to an invalid value, resulting in insufficient PCIe memory resource allocation. As a result, PCIe devices that request large BAR sizes may fail to initialize correctly, and the operating system may log resource allocation errors.A PCIe resource allocation error may be displayed after installing a GPU card that supports PCIe Resizable BAR, where the operating system reports that the device's required memory resources exceed the range allocated by its root bridge. While modern GPU cards are the most common devices impacted, this behavior is not limited to GPUs.

As a workaround, if the system is running System BIOS v1.20 and the issue is observed after updating to BIOS v1.30 or later, perform a "Restore Manufacturing Defaults" operation in the BIOS/Platform Configuration (RBSU) -> System Default Options -> Restore Default Manufacturing Settings -> Yes, restore the default settings.This action will correctly initialize the PCIe Resizable BAR-related settings and resolve the device memory resource allocation issue.This issue is fully resolved in System BIOS v1.60 and later. Starting from the v1.60 version, the BIOS includes a safeguard to automatically initialize the PCIe Resizable BAR Maximum Size setting during BIOS upgrades, preventing this issue from occurring.Click the following link:Hewlett Packard Enterprise Support CenterEnter a product name (e.g., ProLiant DL320 Gen12" in the text search field and wait for a list of Suggested Products to display.
