After upgrading the Operating System from VMware ESXi 8.0 U3 to VMware ESXi 9.0.1.0, along with firmware and drivers via HPE OneView for VMware vCenter (OV4VC) on a cluster with 2 or more HPE Synergy Gen10/Gen10 Plus/Gen11 Compute Modules configured with an HPE Synergy 5830C 32Gb Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter (777456-B21) and managed in VMware vSphere Lifecycle Management (vLCM); failure messages related to the "HPE Firmware Flash for QLogic Synergy Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter" and similar to the following will be displayed when the server profile is reapplied to update firmware in the installation Queue:"The update failed with a component specific error. Retry the update after fixing the component error""The firmware update operation failed. Active""Please retry the firmware update. If the problem persists, contact your authorized support representative with a support dump"
Any HPE Synergy Gen10/Gen10 Plus/Gen11 Compute Module running VMware ESXi 8.0 U3 (or later) and configured with an HPE Synergy 5830C 32Gb Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter (777456-B21) managed in VMware vSphere Lifecycle Management (vLCM).
HPE recommends checking the OneView task for the firmware update results.Once the firmware update has failed; run a remediation in VMware vSphere Lifecycle Management (vLCM) to resolve the issue and allow a successful firmware update.To run a remediation in VMware vSphere Lifecycle Management (vLCM), perform the following steps:Login to vSphere Client:Main menu => InventorySelect the "<Cluster Name>", and select "Update".Select "Image", and make sure a single image is configured with the following:ESXI Version <ESXi Image>Vendor Addon <HPE Vendor Addon>Firmware and Driver Addon <Service Pack>Components(only if needed) <Any component outside SSP/ or Vendor AddOn>Note: Refer to the following URL for vLCM Combos for Synergy platforms:HPE - Recommended VMware LifeCycle Manager Desired Image Definitions for HPE SynergyExample:Click on "RUN PRE-CHECK", wait for the "PRE-CHECK" to Complete.To run the remediation, check the following options:For all hosts:To remediate all hosts in the cluster, Click on "REMEDIATE ALL".ORFor a single host: To remediate a single host, perform the following steps:Set the host to "Maintenance Mode".Select the Host from the "Hosts List".Click on "Run Pre-Check".Click on "Remediate".Wait for the remediation to complete.
