An HPE ProLiant Gen12 compute module or HPE Synergy Gen12 compute module, after HPE Integrated Lights-Out 7 (iLO 7) firmware is updated to v1.18.00 from any previous iLO 7 firmware version, may report "Server in Post" in the HPE Integrated Lights-Out 7 (iLO 7) web interface and a Power-On Self-Test (POST) state of "unknown" in Redfish, even when the host Operating System has finished boot.When this occurs, iLO 7 device discovery may not complete. Dependent operations such as Management Component Transport Protocol (MCTP)/Platform Level Data Model (PLDM) based device discovery and firmware updates may fail.Other iLO 7 features that use the completed Power-On Self-Test (POST) may also be affected, for example:Host network and storage web interface may not display any device entry.Power meter/power regulator settings. APO settings and thermal configuration may not function after the iLO 7 update.Note: iLO 7 will continue to be accessible, i.e., server iLO 7 web interface and SSH access will work as expected.Figure 1: POST at iLO 7 Web InterfaceFigure 2: RedfishThis issue occurs if the server has not been restarted after applying iLO 7 firmware v1.18.00.Earlier iLO 7 firmware versions are not affected.iLO 7 firmware v1.18.01 (and later) resolve this issue.This issue will not be resolved when downgrading to an earlier iLO 7 firmware version.This will occur when running firmware v1.19.00 and then downgrades to firmware v1.18.00 (or earlier).
Any HPE ProLiant Gen12 compute module or HPE Synergy Gen12 compute module updating to iLO 7 firmware v1.18.00 from any previous iLO 7 firmware versions.
Update iLO 7 firmware to version 1.18.01 (or later) to resolve the device discovery and POST status issues introduced in firmware v1.18.00.Note: After updating iLO to firmware v1.18.01, a server reboot is not required.To download iLO 7 v1.18.01 (or later), perform the following steps:Click the following link:http://www.hpe.com/support/ilo7The page should refresh to display the "DRIVERS AND SOFTWARE" tab and the components that support the selected product. From the "DRIVERS AND SOFTWARE" expandable filter menus on the left side of the page:For further filtering if needed - Select the specific Operating System from the Operating Environment.Locate and select theHPE Integrated Lights-Out 7 v1.18.01 firmware.click the Revision History tab to locate the latest version.For more important information, review the Release Notes tab.Click theDownloadbutton.As a workaround, (if running iLO 7 v1.18.00 and cannot immediately update) Perform a cold reboot of the host server. After a cold reboot, iLO device discovery should complete normally, allowing MCTP/PLDM discovery and subsequent iLO 7 firmware updates to complete as expected.
