After updating to firmware version 14.4.473.14, certain Emulex Fibre Channel adapters in HPE servers may fail to boot from SAN. This issue is due to the adapter firmware failing to activate the Fibre Channel port, preventing the host from logging into Fibre Channel targets.Identifying this issue involves checking for the absence of illuminated link LEDs on the physical adapter. Additionally, when the server is in the ROM-based Setup Utility (RBSU), the host bus adapter (HBA) BIOS information will show the port link status as "down," despite the BIOS Adapter driver functionality being enabled. The Fibre Channel switch will also not detect the HBA World-Wide Port Name (WWPN) as logged in. In case of a “Direct attached” Fibre Channel Storage configuration, the HBA will not be able to establish a link to the storage device. The following IML error messages were recorded at the time of the link up failures during POST:Critical,690,5311,0x0011,Network,0x000D,Hardware,11/22/2024 11:27:47,1652: All links are down in adapter HPE SN1610E 32Gb 2p FC HBA in slot 1 ACTION: Check the connection to the adapter and validate the connectivity from the server to any external device, including the cabling. If no problems arefound, the adapter or other connectivity device may need replacement.
This advisory applies to HPE servers configured with any of the following HPE Fibre Channel HBAs:HPE SN1200E 16Gb Dual Port Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter (Q0L14A)HPE SN1200E 16Gb Single Port Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter (Q0L13A)HPE SN1600E 32Gb Dual Port Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter (Q0L12A)HPE SN1600E 32Gb Single Port Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter (Q0L11A)HPE SN1610E 32Gb 1-port Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter (R2J62A)HPE SN1610E 32Gb 2-port Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter (R2J63A)HPE SN1620E 32Gb 2-port Fibre Channel Secure Host Bus Adapter (S4S01A)HPE SN1700E 64Gb 1-port Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter (R7N77A)HPE SN1700E 64Gb 2-port Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter (R7N78A)HPE SN1720E 64Gb 2-port Fibre Channel Secure Host Bus Adapter (S4T09A)
This issue is resolved in HPE Fibre Channel Emulex Host Bus Adapters firmware version 14.4.473.30 (or later), which allows the host to turn on the Fibre Channel port link during server power on.
