The initial released versions of Integrated Smart Update Tools (iSUT), Agentless Management Service (AMS) and iLORest for ESXi with Gen12 server support are unable to communicate with HPE Integrated Lights-Out 7 (iLO 7) as described in the Customer AdvisoryHPE Integrated Lights-Out 7 (iLO 7) - Unable to Communicate to iLO 7 v1.13.01 (or earlier) from Host Applications Using Application Accounts:For HPE ProLiant servers, since there is no newer Custom ESXi images since April 2025 for 8.0U3 and June 2025 for 9.0, the newer versions of AMS, iSUT and iLORest components with fixes for the above issue are only available in the newer releases of the Service Pack for ProLiant released in May and July 2025.However, updating the ESXi host(s) with the newer SPPs via vLCM would require AMS and iSUT to be running on the host and communicating with iLO, and thus this is not an option to update the software on ESXi hosts. Therefore, another method to perform the updates via vLCM is required as is described in the Resolution below.
Any HPE ProLiant Gen12 Server with the HPE Custom ESXi 8.0 U3 (April 2025) or 9.0 (June 2025) OS Image installed.
Below are the steps to update AMS, iSUT and iLORest components on the Gen12 ESXi hosts affected via vSphere LifeCycle Manager (vLCM), even though the installed AMS and iSUT components are not able to communicate with iLO 7.Download the latest iSUT, AMS and iLORest offline bundles (recommended) or use the iSUT and AMS version included in the May or July 2025 SPPs by registering those SPPs to the OV4VC Plug-in in vCenter. Latest offline bundles are available here:iSUT,iLORest,AMSAfter downloading, upload the offline bundles to vLCM via Lifecyle Manager->Actions->Import Updates menu.Update the vLCM Cluster Image to remove the Firmware and Drivers AddOn (SPP), and add the newer iLORest, iSUT and AMS for Gen12 as additional Components (shown below).Validate and save the new Cluster Image.Perform Remediate All. This should update AMS, iSUT and iLORest components on the Gen12 ESXi hosts.After the ESXi hosts complete reboots and after verifying both AMS and iSUT are running, perform the required creation of AMS and iSUT application accounts (reference URL below) for communicating to iLO 7 on the ESXi host(s), and set SUT to required mode to work with vLCM/OV4VC/OV updates.https://developer.hpe.com/blog/configure-isut-and-ams-for-vlcm-based-firmware-updates-on-gen-12-servers/Now the newer SPP can be added to the current vLCM Cluster Image to update the host with newer Firmware and other Software and drivers, if desired, as shown below.
