After updating any HPE Gen10 or HPE Gen10 Plus platform installed with HPE Smart Array SR Gen10/Gen10 Plus controllers to firmware version 4.11/3.01.01.074 or later, some servers may take a longer time to boot or may not boot. This is expected behavior after updating the HPE Smart Array SR Gen10/Gen10 Plus controllers to firmware version 4.11/3.01.01.074 (or later), as the Smart Array controller is moved to bottom of the list after the firmware is updated. For example:Server Boot OrderInternal SD Card 1 : Generic USB3.0-CRWSlot 2 Port 1 : HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331T Adapter - NIC (PXE IPv4)Slot 2 Port 1 : HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331T Adapter - NIC (HTTP(S) IPv6)Slot 2 Port 1 : HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331T Adapter - NIC (HTTP(S) IPv4)Slot 2 Port 1 : HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331T Adapter - NIC (PXE IPv6)Embedded LOM 1 Port 1 : HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331i Adapter - NIC (HTTP(S) IPv4)Embedded LOM 1 Port 1 : HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331i Adapter - NIC (PXE IPv4)Embedded LOM 1 Port 1 : HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331i Adapter - NIC (HTTP(S) IPv6)Embedded LOM 1 Port 1 : HPE Ethernet 1Gb 4-port 331i Adapter - NIC (PXE IPv6)Embedded RAID 1 :HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 - 279.365 GiB, RAID1 Logical Drive 1(Target0, Lun:0)NOTE: This issue is rare and will not occur on the majority of servers, as the OS creates the boot entry order after finishing OS deployment related to the .EFI application. For example:\EFI\redhat\shimx64.efi\EFI\ubuntu\shimx64.efi\EFI\VMware\safeboot64.efi\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\bootmgfw.efiIf the HPE Smart Array Controller was selected as the first boot device, this configuration would be affected.
This issue ONLY affects the following HPE Gen10 or Gen10 Plus platform installed with HPE Smart Array SR Gen10 controllers or installed with HPE Gen10 Plus controllers when customers set up UEFI Server Boot Order before installing the OS.HPE Smart Array SR Gen10 Controllers804398-B21 HPE Smart Array E208e-p SR Gen10 (8 External Lanes/No Cache) 12G SAS PCIe Plug-in Controller804326-B21 HPE Smart Array E208i-a SR Gen10 (8 Internal Lanes/No Cache) 12G SAS Modular Controller869079-B21 HPE Smart Array E208i-a SR Gen10 (8 Internal Lanes/No Cache) 12G SAS Modular LH Controller823852-B21 HPE Smart Array E208i-c SR Gen10 (8 Internal Lanes/No Cache) 12G SAS Modular Controller804394-B21 HPE Smart Array E208i-p SR Gen10 (8 Internal Lanes/No Cache) 12G SAS PCIe Plug-in Controller804367-B21 HPE Smart Array P204i-b SR Gen10 (4 Internal Lanes/1GB Cache) 12G SAS Modular Controller804424-B21 HPE Smart Array P204i-c SR Gen10 (4 Internal Lanes/1GB Cache) 12G SAS Modular Controller804405-B21 HPE Smart Array P408e-p SR Gen10 (8 External Lanes/4GB Cache) 12G SAS PCIe Plug-in Controller804331-B21 HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 (8 Internal Lanes/2GB Cache) 12G SAS Modular Controller869081-B21 HPE Smart Array P408i-a SR Gen10 (8 Internal Lanes/2GB Cache) 12G SAS Modular LH Controller823856-B21 HPE Smart Array P408i-c SR Gen10 (8 Internal Lanes/2GB Cache) 12G SAS Modular Controller830824-B21 HPE Smart Array P408i-p SR Gen10 (8 Internal Lanes/2GB Cache) 12G SAS PCIe Plug-in Controller804428-B21 HPE Smart Array P416ie-m SR Gen10 (8 Int 8 Ext Lanes/2GB Cache) 12G SAS Mezzanine Controller869083-B21 HPE Smart Array P816i-a SR Gen10 (16 Int Lanes/4GB Cache/SmartCache) 12G SAS Modular LH Controller804338-B21 HPE Smart Array P816i-a SR Gen10 (16 Internal Lanes/4GB Cache/SmartCache) 12G SAS Modular Controller804381-B21 HPE Smart Array P408e-m SR Gen10 (8 External Lanes/2GB Cache) 12G SAS Mezzanine ControllerHPE Smart Array P408i-sb SR Gen10 controller with 2GB FBWC (Built-In Smart array Controller for HPE D2500sb Storage Blade)HPE SmartRAID Gen10 Plus ControllersP04220-B21 HPE SR932i-p x32 Lanes 8GB Wide Cache NVMe/SAS 24G Controller for HPE Gen10 PlusP12688-B21 HPE SR416i-a x16 Lanes 4GB Cache NVMe/SAS 24G Controller for HPE Gen10 Plus
To resolve this issue:Move the HPE Smart Array controller to the first place in the boot order listORAdd the OS absolute boot path (.EFI) and make that first in the Server Boot Order. This can be achieved viaSystem Utilities (F9) > iLO GUI > Administration - Boot Order, HPE iLOREST/ iLO RESTful API, or from the operating system UEFI Boot Manager.Reference GuidesUEFI System Utilities User Guide for HPE ProLiant Gen10, ProLiant Gen10 Plus Servers, and HPE SynergyUEFI Deployment Guide for HPE ProLiant Gen10Servers and HPE SynergyHPE iLO 5 User GuideRESTful Interface TooliLO RESTful APIRECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES: Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively in your e-mail through HPE Support Alerts.
