Info
As part of vCenter inventory discovery, HPE Backup and Recovery Service registers the HPE Alletra 9000 storage system with Recovery Service Data Orchestrator (DO). The registration fails with an alert, and the below message is observed in the Data Services Cloud Console Issues panel:
Storage System Registration Failed
HPE Backup and Recovery Data Orchestrator: <Data Orchestrator name> failed to establish connection with the Alletra 9000 storage system: <storage system name>. Ensure that the Data Orchestrator can reach the storage system to enable storage array optimized data protection and recovery features. This step can be skipped for data protection and recovery using VMware CBT.
The registration fails if the HPE Alletra 9000 storage system is configured in non-FIPS mode and HPE Alletra 9000 OS version is 9.5.0.
Scope
This issue affects HPE Alletra 9000 storage systems, configured in non-FIPS mode, with OS version 9.5.0, when Backup and Recovery Service is used for snapshots and array-optimized backup.
Resolution
A fix will be available as part of a future HPE Alletra 9000 OS release.
To workaround this issue, enable FIPS mode when the HPE Alletra 9000 OS version is 9.5.0.
NOTE
: FIPS mode can be enabled with non-FIPS drives in the system.
FIPS mode can be enabled with either the CLI or the array GUI. Review and understand all warnings and text provided which explains FIPS mode.
cli% controlsecurity fips status
cli% controlsecurity fips enable Warning: Enabling FIPS mode requires restarting all system management interfaces, which will terminate ALL existing connections including this one. When that happens, you must reconnect to continue. Continue enabling FIPS mode (yes/no)? yes Successfully enabled FIPS mode.
cli% controlsecurity fips disable Warning: Disabling FIPS mode requires restarting all system management interfaces, which will terminate ALL existing connections including this one. When that happens, you must reconnect to continue. Continue disabling FIPS mode (yes/no)? yes Successfully disabled FIPS mode.
On the array management GUI, enable the FIPS mode in Settings:
System > Configure FIPS mode
