Beginning in OmniStack 4.1.1u1, NFS server (port 2049) and rpcbind (port 111) were blocked on the Omnistack Virtual Controller (OVC) management interface as part of security hardening. However, in some configurations, additional compute nodes may not be connected to the OVC storage network and will require access to the OVC management interface for NFS connectivity.
Configurations where compute (standard ESXi) hosts connect to SimpliVity datastores using the OmniStack Virtual Controller management IP Address.
IMPORTANT: Customers who currently have additional compute nodes with storage connectivity to an OVC management interface should contact support prior to upgrading to 4.1.1u1, as storage to these compute nodes will become unavailable after the upgrade. HPE SimpliVity Support can re-enable NFS/rpcbind access through the OVC management interface if the configuration requires access for migration purposes or other supported configurations. Note: Connecting additional compute nodes through the OVC management interface is not preferred, as the OVC management interface is not protected by IP failover. To verify if a compute node will be affected, SSH to the ESXi host (compute) and run the following command: cat /etc/hosts The IP address listed for "omni.cube.io" will be an IP address associated with either an OVC storage IP or OVC management IP. If this address is an OVC management IP address: Change the connection to an OVC storage IP address using the steps provided in the HPE SimpliVity Administrator Guide. See the section entitled "HPE SimpliVity datastores and standard ESXi hosts" OR Support assistance will be necessary to manually allow NFS traffic over the OVC management interface to maintain connectivity prior to upgrading to OmniStack 4.1.1u1.
