Document Version Release Date Details 2 2020-10-05 The Resolution section has been updated with the firmware version containing the solution. 1 2020-08-28 Original document release. On an HPE Synergy 12000 Frame using HPE Synergy Frame Link Modules (FLM) with firmware version 3.02.00 (HPE Synergy Custom SPP 2020.07.01) and configured with HPE Synergy 10Gb Pass Thru Modules, HPE OneView may report either one of the following errors: "Failed to update the interconnect" or "Encountered an unexpected internal problem." The above errors may occur in the following scenarios: Scenario 1: Performing a firmware update on the HPE Synergy Frame Link Module to version 3.02.00. Once the firmware update has completed, the configuration of existing Pass-Thru Modules will remain intact and the production traffic will be unaffected. However, performing the following actions will result in errors: Enable or disable any downlink ports on the Pass-Thru Modules. Toggle the UID LED on the Pass-Thru Modules. Add or remove compute modules connected to the Pass-Thru Modules. Remove, reinsert, or replace a Pass-Thru Module. For the above actions, OneView may report the following error message: "Failed to update the interconnect" Scenario 2: Adding a new frame with HPE Synergy 10Gb Pass Thru Modules, or adding HPE Synergy 10Gb Pass Thru Modules to an existing frame that is using FLM version 3.02.00. Adding a new frame with Pass Thru-Modules, or adding Pass Thru-Modules to an existing frame may fail and for each Pass-Thru Module, the following error message will be reported: "Encountered an unexpected internal problem" Note: Additional operations such as the ones described in the first scenario may also fail.
In the scenarios described above, any HPE Synergy 12000 Frame configured with both of the following: HPE Synergy Frame Link Modules running firmware version 3.02.00 HPE Synergy 10Gb Pass Thru Modules
This issue has been resolved in HPE Synergy Frame Link Module firmware version 3.02.01. This firmware version is included in HPE Synergy Custom SPP 2020.07.02 If the FLM is running firmware version 3.02.00, do not perform the following operations: Enable or disable any downlink ports on the 10Gb Pass-Thru Modules. Toggle the UID LED on the 10Gb Pass-Thru Modules. Add or remove compute modules connected to the 10Gb Pass-Thru Modules. Remove, reinsert, or replace a 10Gb Pass-Thru Module. If this issue has occurred, perform the following steps to recover from the error status: Update all HPE Synergy Frame Link Modules to firmware version 3.02.01. E-fuse (electrically reset a bay in a frame) or physically remove and re-insert the 10Gb Pass-Thru Modules one at a time. If the Networking is configured redundantly, resetting each 10Gb Pass-Thru Module one at a time will avoid a Network traffic outage on the compute modules. If the Networking is not configured redundantly, schedule a maintenance window since a Network traffic outage will occur during this operation. To perform the e-fuse operation: i. SSH into the composer IP address and log in as Administrator ii. console-view iii. show interconnect list iv. efuse interconnectBay <enclosure-name> <bay-number> RECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES : Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively in your e-mail through HPE Subscriber's Choice.
