Scope
This issue affects any HPE StoreEasy or HPE 3PAR StoreServ File Controller running Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2012 R2 and 2016.
The bugcheck occurs because the OS detects a deadlock between VOLSNAP and FVEVOL drivers. This is one of the known issues that affects both Microsoft Windows Server 2012 R2 and 2016.
Microsoft Windows Server 2019 is not affected.
Resolution
In order to resolve the issue, Microsoft suggests disabling Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) legacy tracing.
To disable VSS Legacy Tracing:
Update the (default) value under
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\Diag
to
Disabled
.
This can be achieved by using RegEdt32 or the reg.exe command, below:
Reg.exe add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\Diag" /ve /t REG_SZ /d "Disabled" /f
NOTE
: The change occurs immediately, there is generally no need to restart VSS or the server.
CAUTION
: Disabling VSS Legacy Tracing will prevent Windows Server Backup Running.
