When applying a server profile using the firmware only option, the following error message may be displayed:"Unable to update server firmware due to internal error"This issue will only occur with HPE OneView 4.10 and later versions that manage Gen10 servers, because this combination uses the HPE Integrated Lights-Out 5 (iLO 5) NAND to stage the firmware components before deployment. This update issue can occur under several scenarios:Scenario 1- If a Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) contains multiple entries in the SPP metadata for the same firmware component, OneView may not correctly handle each component and it depends on how the SPP component list is parsed. This can cause an incorrect comparison of OneView generated install set compared to the install set that is attempting to be staged on the iLO 5 NAND. This results in an internal error. This issue may be intermittent.Scenario 2- Incorrect clearing of the OneView cache when multiple SPPs are in the OneView firmware repository from the same SPP family. For example, multiple custom SPPs may be built from the 11.2018 base SPP. This can cause an incorrect comparison of OneView generated install set, when compared to the install set that is attempting to be staged on the iLO 5 NAND. This results in an internal error. This issue may be intermittent.Scenario 3– OneView may incorrectly cache the contents of iLO 5 system recovery set across all servers that OneView is attempting to update. OneView may not stage the needed firmware component on the iLO 5 NAND. This can occur when there is a mix of newer and older servers in the environment. If the newer server is updated first, it can cause the cache to contain a necessary component for an older server, but in turn that component will not be staged to the iLO 5 NAND. This can cause an incorrect comparison of the OneView generated install set, when compared to the installset that is attempting to be staged on the iLO 5 NAND. This results in an internal error.
Any HPE OneView 4.10 managing Gen10 servers.
Scenarios 1 and 2 are resolved by upgrading to HPE OneView 4.20 or later.Scenario 3 is resolved by upgrading to OneView 4.20.02 or later.Upgrade to HPE OneView 4.20 or later to resolve the issue scenarios:https://h20392.www2.hpe.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=Z7550-63180RECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES: Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively via e-mail through HPE Subscriber's Choice.
