On certain HPE ProLiant, Synergy and Apollo Gen10 server platforms listed in the Scope section below, a "Generic - SD/MMC CRW USB Device" will be visible in the Operating System (OS), pre-boot utilities, and pre-boot applications. The device refers to the SD/MMC internal card reader provided by the server. Even if the SD card or media is not present, the reader device will be visible. The OS and pre-boot utilities/applications may treat this device as a USB storage device. Any attempts to read or boot from the device will fail due to missing media.
Any of the following HPE Gen10 server platforms where the SD card reader slot is empty will present the USB device reader to all Operating Systems and pre-boot applications:HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen10 ServerHPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 ServerHPE ProLiant DL385 Gen10 ServerHPE ProLiant DL560 Gen10 ServerHPE ProLiant DL580 Gen10 ServerHPE ProLiant ML350 Gen10 ServerHPE ProLiant XL170r Gen10 ServerHPE ProLiant XL190r Gen10 ServerHPE ProLiant XL450 Gen10 ServerHPE Synergy 660 Gen10 Compute ModuleHPE Synergy 480 Gen10 Compute Module
If there is no SD media present in the card reader, the device can be disabled in the UEFI System Utilities Platform Configuration (RBSU). Disabling the empty card reader device will remove the device from the system and prevent the OS and pre-boot applications from presenting the empty reader device. The device disable setting is located at the following menu in Platform Configuration (RBSU):[System Options] -> [USB Options] -> [Internal SD Card Slot]RECEIVE PROACTIVE UPDATES: Receive support alerts (such as Customer Advisories), as well as updates on drivers, software, firmware, and customer replaceable components, proactively via e-mail through HPE Subscriber's Choice.
