HPE 3PAR Storage Replication Adapter (SRA) Software for VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) integrates HPE 3PAR StoreServ Storage with VMware SRM to provide a foundation for disaster recovery and business continuity solutions.Due to a change introduced in VMware ESXi 6.5, the stretched storage feature of SRM does not work in ESXi 6.5 environments. This change in ESXi 6.5 behavior requires exporting virtual volumes using the same LUN IDs to both the protected and recovery site hosts in a stretched storage configuration. If the LUN IDs are not same, the volumes will not be visible to the hosts. However, during SRM operations, SRA may export the volumes with different LUN IDs to the protected and recovery site hosts. Since ESXi 6.5 does not allow different LUN IDs, stretched storage feature does not function in ESXi 6.5 environments.
This issue affects the stretched storage feature of VMware Site Recovery Manager with HPE 3PAR Storage Replication Adapter versions 6.5 and 6.5.1 in ESXi 6.5 environments.
This issue is resolved in the VMware ESXi 6.5 Update 1 release.See the following excerpt from the ESXi 6.5 U1 release notes, which states that it is addressed in this release. After installation or upgrade certain multipathed LUNs will not be visible. If the paths to a LUN have different LUN IDs in case of multipathing, the LUN will not be registered by PSA and end users will not see them. This issue is resolved in this release.VMware ESXi 6.5 Update 1 Release Notes are available on a third-party website at:https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-vSphere/6.5/rn/vsphere-esxi-651-release-notes.htmlNOTE: HPE recommends customers using stretched configuration to upgrade to ESXi 6.5 Update 1.DISCLAIMER:One or more of the links above will take you outside of the Hewlett Packard Enterprise website.
