After restarting the computer, a blue screen is displayed with the error message " KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x1E) ." The computer may fail to complete the restart or may repeatedly show this blue screen. This issue occurs after the May 2026 Windows 11 security update has been installed. This might occur after installing the May 2026 security update (KB5089549/KB5089573). The Windows 11 hotfix KB5094126 was released to the public on June 09, 2026 by Microsoft.
Installing Microsoft Windows 11 update KB5094126 (Operating System (OS) Build 26200.8655 or 26100.8655) or newer resolves this blue screen error. For full details, see Microsoft's support article: June 09, 2026—KB5094126 (OS Builds 26200.8655 and 26100.8655) - Microsoft Support To install the update: Press Windows + I to open Settings . Select Windows Update , then click Check for updates . Download and install KB5094126 . Restart the computer when prompted. After the restart, press Windows + R , type: winver , and press Enter . Confirm the OS Build version is 26200.8655, 26100.8655 , or newer. If the computer cannot start normally: If the blue screen prevents the computer from starting, try the following: Boot into Safe Mode with Networking: Turn the computer on and off three times in a row (power on, wait for the blue screen, hold the power button to force shut down). On the third restart, Windows should enter the Recovery Environment . Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart . After the computer restarts, press 5 or F5 to select Safe Mode with Networking . Once in Safe Mode, go to Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates and install KB5094126 . Uninstall the problematic update (temporary workaround): From the Recovery Environment, select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Uninstall Updates . Select Uninstall latest quality update to remove the May 2026 security update. After the computer restarts successfully, install the June 2026 update (KB5094126) through Windows Update. Back to Top
