Symptoms

The result of "esxcfg-advcfg -g /Net/BMCNetworkEnable" is 0 when ran from any ESXi host. In the /var/log/mystic/lcm-web.log on VxRail Manager, we may see a try count up to 42 for querying the Platform Service whenever the upgrade failed: 2026-04-29T16:15:14.739Z <2e0c421486d7062e321f8a4301fd98ce> lcm [INFO] <571> PlatformServiceDOClient.java isPlatformServiceReady() (240): Get DO platform service status for NODESERVICETAG, try count is 42 In the /var/log/mystic/lcm-web.log, we will see a failure similar to: 2026-04-29T16:17:15.047Z <00000000000000000000000000000000> lcm [INFO] <94> DynamicReloadableResourceBundleMessageSource.java getMessageInternal() (19): Succeeded to translate message: Failure occurred while running an upgrade for bundle: VXRAIL_COMPOSITE-8.0.380-29596779_for_8.0.x.zip. The error message: VxRail Platform Service on the host NODEFQDN is not installed or ready. -> Failure occurred while running an upgrade for bundle: VXRAIL_COMPOSITE-8.0.380-29596779_for_8.0.x.zip. The error message: VxRail Platform Service on the host NODEFQDN is not installed or ready. The VxRail Plugin Updates tab will show the following error: The iDRAC Standard Switch under Host > Configure > Networking > Virtual Switches is missing its Physical Adapter (vusb0): Checking the /var/log/platformsvc.log on the affected host shows a failure to reach 169.254.0.1, and pings to 169.254.0.1 from affected host fail. Platform Service VIB shows to be on version 8.0.380.29572188 on the host: 2026-04-29 16:33:51,097 platformsvc MainThread ERROR idrac connection init failed. Please confirm idrac ssh enabled. Cause

The Physical Adapter on the iDRAC Standard Switch is lost after the host upgrades the Platform Service VIB and reboots. The STIG assessment for 3.0.203 disables BMCNetworkEnable on ESXi. 

Resolution

Upload the latest version of the VxRail Toolbox to the VxRail Manager. (Found here: VxRail: User Guide for VxRail Troubleshooting ToolboxRun vxtoolv7 from the toolbox.Run option 1 to enable ssh service on all hosts. Run option 3 to run ESXi host commandsRun esxcfg-advcfg -s 1 /Net/BMCNetworkEnable Verify BMCNetworkEnable is a value of 1 by running esxcfg-advcfg -g /Net/BMCNetworkEnable If you are unable to use vxtool you can run these commands separately on each host: Check the configuration with esxcfg-advcfg -g /Net/BMCNetworkEnable Modify the configuration with esxcfg-advcfg -s 1 /Net/BMCNetworkEnable Verify the configuration with esxcfg-advcfg -g /Net/BMCNetworkEnable Once the above steps are completed, ensure the host is in Maintenance Mode and proceed with rebooting it.
