IBM applied changes to their operating system to attempt to address a compatibility issue with another vendor. These were applied to the following AIX releases under the listed IBM Authorized Program Analysis Reports (APARs): AIX 6100-08 IV89321 AIX 7100-01 IV85041 AIX 7100-03 IV89319 AIX 7100-04 IV89320 AIX 7200-02 IV85937 AIX 7200-01 IV85712 Client machines running IBM's AIX operating system may be unable to change directory to, or view the contents of, their `. snapshot ` directories. Attempting to do so, simply shows the parent directory contents.
Certain AIX systems discard any new filehandle that was associated with an existing FileID. Since each OneFS snapshot directory/file uses the same FileID as the original, with the difference being stored in the filehandle itself. The AIX client will stop processing the request if the new filehandle has an existing fileID. Whereas the correct behavior is sending the next request to that new filehandle.
IBM is working to revert this change in APAR IJ15869, which is pending release in late May of 2019. Work Around If the customer is using NFSv3, they can work around this by creating exports for their .snapshot directories, or by enabling Mount Subdirectories on the impacted export, then mounting the .snapshot path directly.
