Windows or Linux Clusters are unable to use or access RDMs or virtual disks stored on a clustered VMDK , if the Volume is a Metro Volume mapped to an ESX host. Windows SQL cluster might show an error " The requested resource is in use ." The same volumes are usable and accessible if the Metro Volume configuration is ended.
RDMs and clustered VMDKs on ESXi hosts allow the creation of clustered Linux or Windows VMs, like SQL clusters. The ESXi host forwards the required SCSI reservations to the Storage Array. ESX hosts PowerStoreOS version 3.X and higher supports Metro Volumes mapped to ESXi hosts SCSI reservations are not supported on Metro Volumes mapped to ESXi hosts (PowerStoreOS version 3.0.X - 4.1.X) Linux and Windows Hosts PowerStoreOS version 4.0 introduced support for Metro Volumes mapped to Linux and Windows hosts, including SCSI reservations
Use synchronous or asynchronous replication to protect clustered VMDKs and RDMs that require SCSI reservations. Support for SCSI reservations on Metro Volumes mapped to ESX hosts is planned for the next minor release of PowerStoreOS
