Customers may report issues using JBOD mode on their Precision towers when configured with Broadcom 9440-8i/9460-16i RAID controllers. Affected Platforms Precision 5820 Tower Precision 7820 Tower Precision 7920 Tower A single drive JBOD mode may function, but this has not been tested and is not recommended. Customers may experience performance degradation and other functional issues. Note: JBOD generally means a collection of hard disks that have not been configured to act as a RAID array. It is an alternative to using a RAID configuration. Rather than configuring a storage array to use a RAID level, the disks within the array are either spanned or treated as independent disks.
The Broadcom 9440-8i/9460-16i RAID controllers only support RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10 modes.
JBOD mode is not supported on these towers when using Broadcom 9440-8i/9460-16i RAID controllers. It is recommended that customers use one of the supported RAID modes for the best results. Single drives can be put into a Virtual RAID 0. This adds the benefit of using the additional cache provided by the 9440-8i/9460-16i RAID controller.
