Symptom

Catalyst 9500X or 9600X may report the following log message if you try to configure embedded packet capture on a a layer 2 interface (a port in switchport mode access, or switchport mode trunk, for example) *Apr 3 19:37:14.742: %FED3_EPC_ERRMSG-4-UNSUPPORTED: F0/0: fed: EPC on interface Fi1/0/40 is not supported.To recover, Stop the capture.

Conditions

Configure an embedded capture (syntax; monitor capture interface ) on a layer 2 interface See log messages such as: *Apr 3 19:37:07.259: %FMFP-3-OBJ_DWNLD_TO_DP_FAILED: F0/0: fman_fp_image: Batch type 1 ID 2882382797 download to DP failed *Apr 3 19:37:14.742: %FED3_EPC_ERRMSG-4-UNSUPPORTED: F0/0: fed: EPC on interface Fi1/0/40 is not supported.To recover, Stop the capture.

Workaround

Use SPAN (switch port analyzer) e.g. Monitor session source interface Monitor session destination interface
