Symptom

Unexpected reload due to a segmentation fault (segfault) on a CUBE router with the following exception: Exception to IOS Thread: Frame pointer 0x7EFDBDD22650, PC = 0x556AB614FEAF UNIX-EXT-SIGNAL: Segmentation fault(11), Process = CCSIP_SPI_CONTROL -Traceback= 1#d716282ec76e46fc01835eb851cb3d41 :556AACF15000+923AEAF :556AACF15000+923BA36 :556AACF15000+10A369FC :556AACF15000+10A3C14D :556AACF15000+1099405A :556AACF15000+10F17E58 Cisco TAC can decode the traceback to confirm whether it matches the functions leading up to the crash.

Conditions

At this time, there are no specific conditions known to trigger this issue other than having a CUBE router on affected code processing calls.

Workaround

This issue has not been seen on code prior to 17.7.1. A number of customers have downgraded to avoid this issue while Development continues to analyze the issue.

Further Problem Description

This issue is still under investigation currently. If you believe you are running into this crash, please ensure logging is enabled and capture the following debugs to get a better understanding of the call flows traversing the router: 1. Configure the Router to send all debug output to a syslog server (example below): config t service timestamps debug datetime msec localtime show-timezone service timestamps log datetime msec localtime show-timezone service sequence-numbers service internal no logging console no logging monitor logg trap 7 logg host => Change this to the actual IP of the syslog server logging queue-limit 10000 logging rate-limit 10000 end 2. Enable the following debugs: debug ccsip message debug ccsip error debug ccsip transport debug ccsip info debug ccsip event 3. Please share this information with TAC in the event the Router has crashed.
