Release-note
Software upgrade operation fails on modular NCS5500 routers (NCS5504, NCS5508, NCS5516) when tried with GISO image with higher size than what is supported in the current IOS XR release.
SU failure is ideally observed when customer is building GISO image with healthcheck rpms introduced in 734. And also when GISO image size is higher due to incision of too many SMUs.
Work around is to perform re-image of new V2 GISO image rather than SW Upgrade. OR trim down the V2 GISO by removing rpms consuming large size and try SU with trimmed down list of SMU.
GISO image size increase would result in SU operation failure due to insufficient free disk space on install_repo. This is going to be observed on modular NCS5500, because in modular ncs5500 the staging location used to extract, copy ISO image is /install_repo/ and this disk partition will not suffice, if GISO image is higher. So the solution provided for this issue, is to return maximum free disk partition from calvados (i.e /misc/disk1/) to copy, extract GISO image to avoid filling up /install_repo. Note: for modular ncs5500 platforms the install_repo can handle giso SW images up to 2.8GiB, with install_repo partition being used upto 1.9GiB. SU with 2.8GiB GISO passed with this CSCwb54785 installed on V1.
