Symptom

Incorrect MTU settings on control plane beyond 9000 could lead to tcp session resetting, ping failure for jumbo packets in overlay-1 vrf etc.

Conditions

This happens when control plane MTU is set beyond 9000 (Usually around forwarding-plane MTU of 9216).

Workaround

Control-plane MTU and forwarding MTU are completely independent of each other. Neither have a bearing on each other nor do they affect functionality. With this in perspective, the recommended MTU settings on control plane should be upto 9000. Beyond that, control plane inconsistencies have been observed especially on modular chassis type platforms.
