Symptoms
Some users are facing intermittent issues with the Email Sync on some Samsung and Pixel devices with Android 13.
Impact / Risks
Emails do not sync intermittently in Boxer for Android 13 on some Samsung and Pixel devices.
Resolution
The Boxer Engineering team is working closely with the Samsung and Google teams in identifying and solving the issue.
Update from Vendors:
Samsung published a KB regarding this issue: https://docs.samsungknox.com/admin/knox-platform-for-enterprise/kbas/kba-816-emails-unable-to-sync-for-newly-enrolled-devices-running-android-13.htm "The fix will be deployed at the end of February 2023, in the first firmware update after the device is upgraded to Android 13."
Workaround
Workaround 1:
The most efficient workaround is below and currently fixes the email and calendar sync on the affected devices.
The workaround is enabled by default in the Work Profile on Samsung devices running on Android 13 since version 23.01 which is going to be in Beta from January 11th and the official rollout is planned for the third week of January. For other devices and Boxer running outside Work Profile in order for this workaround to be implemented:
Boxer should be updated to version 22.11 or aboveThe affected users have to turn on a specific Enable ContentResolver Facade feature flag by the following steps Settings -> Advanced -> Enable features -> Enable ContentResolver FacadeNOTE: This workaround works for multiple managed, shared and delegated accounts for devices with Boxer version 23.01 and above.
NOTE: As the delegate calendars use periodic sync instead of automatic one, the workaround doesn't cover this use case and the delegated calendars need to be synced manually in the app.
Workaround 2:
If the above does not work, another option is a full device restart. Fully reboot the device and try again.
Workaround 3:
Work Profile restart (this is the faster option - same success rate as the above one)
Android Quick Settings menu (dragging down from the top system bar)
First Disable, then Enable again the Work Profile.
Android Settings
Open Setting -> Accounts and Backup -> Manage Accounts -> Work (select the Work tab) -> Work profile settings -> Work profile -> Turn it OFFThen turn it ON
NOTE: The last two workarounds are fixing the issue with intermittent success and they might require multiple attempts in order to work.
