Symptoms
Instant clone provisioning fails with this error:
Error during provisioning: Initial publish failed: Fault type is VC_FAULT_FATAL - A general system error occurred: VM exceeds maximum supported disk size per VM'
The primary image used for the pool creation contains a number of disks with a total combined size equal to or greater than 512GB.
Cause
The View Storage Accelerator feature has a limit of 512GB on the maximum combined size of all disks attached to a VM. The View Storage Accelerator feature is automatically enabled for Instant Clone pools.
Resolution
Create a primary image where the total combined size of all the disks does not equal or exceed 512GB.
Workaround
While Instant Clone pools have the View Storage Accelerator enabled automatically, it is possible to workaround this by disabling the feature in the vCenter configuration of the Horizon Administration page.Note: This is not recommended as this will affect all the pools within the Horizon environment and it is additionally recommended to use View Storage Accelerator with Instant Clone pools.
In Horizon Administrator Select View Configuration > Servers.Select the vCenter Server to which you are deploying this pool and click Edit.Click on the Storage tab and untick the Enable View Storage Accelerator tickbox.
After completing these steps you will now be able to deploy Instant Clone desktop pools using a primary image containing a disk or disks with a total combined size equal to or greater than 512GB.Note: During pool creation you will be prompted that for optimal performance View Storage Accelerator is required. You will need to choose Ignore to continue with the pool creation.
