Purpose
Location Tracking allows admins to keep track of the location of their Windows 10 devices. Starting in Workspace ONE 1811, this functionality has been updated to use the native Windows 10 MDM capability for location tracking through CSP (RemoteFind CSP) on desktops rather than through the use of the VMware AirWatch Agent that is distributed through the Microsoft Store.
Location Tracking will honor the Privacy Settings that are configured at Settings > Devices & Users > General > Privacy. The location sampling interval can be configured at Settings > Devices & Users > Windows > Windows Desktop > Windows Sample Schedule.
Impact / Risks
Upon upgrading to Workspace ONE 1811, customers leveraging Location Tracking on their Windows 10 desktops no longer need to use or deploy the VMware AirWatch Agent in the Microsoft Store.
Newly enrolled Windows 10 desktop devices will report location data using native capabilities based on Privacy settings.
Existing devices will seamlessly report location data through native capabilities. The VMware AirWatch Agent can be uninstalled without any impact to the feature.
Windows 10 Phones will continue to use the VMware AirWatch Agent from the Microsoft Store to track location data.
